Initially, these courses go through some building, prep, understanding the timeline, graph editor and building up a decent base for things that are actually useful and will save you time. I’ve personally found, that in doing so…when listening to people talk about their ideas or viewing boards I can mentally run through what I know and judge the initial ask based on that….worst case, it ends up being a “Hey, it’s possible, BUT gonna need some R&D time”. I’d personally recommend once familiar, to do random things … explore the plugins native to AE to understand their capabilities and limitations. Before purchasing anything or delving into anything outside of your comfort zone, use YT or whatever is available to understand the program and its core/basic fundamentals. The other links are more along the lines of getting to know the program. To that point, I’d recommend understanding those rules….from there you can “bend” them (not break them) depending on what you’re working on - thats where things start to get fun. While some of it is more common sense, it’s really trying to insert it and embrace it to a level where you don’t think about it and everything feels like it belongs. The included links specifically the 12 principals is a time tested age old methodology that has stood the test of time. But, a core understanding and competency of your tools and capabilities are absolutely paramount. Understand the basics before jumping straight into “making cool shit” which BTW is always subjective.
